Welcome to Insaniyaat, a graduate student-run
on-line periodical, www.aucegypt.edu/academic/insanyat, based at the American University in Cairo, Sociology and
Anthropology Department.
In Insaniyaat, we believe that social reality is a
complex whole, better understood by drawing from various methods
and disciplines of study. Capitalizing on contributions from
different researchers and analysts, we try to broaden and deepen
the study of the Middle East as a historical, sociological,
political and economic formation. On the other hand, through
different editorials, commentaries, papers and book reviews written
on the Middle East, we aim at drawing a bridge between social
knowledge and the surrounding larger reality, and to take advantage
of our location in Cairo as one of the richest centers of the
Middle East. In this respect, we want to extend an invitation
to all scholars interested in the Middle East to take part with us
in furthering our links to the broader societies and our
understanding of them.
